I'm a college student who's about to move into her first apartment!! (Scary stuff!)... I'm lucky that I have an AMAZING roommate for next year who has already decorated the apartment beautifully, but now I've got to bring in my stuff to fill in the gaps that her old roomie will leave behind.

On a very meager budget, I'm hoping to find some great ideas on how to furnish/decorate my apartment in true DIY fashion!

So, I finally have some photos of my apartment!

By lafemmedramatique Curbly5

I moved in back in May, but I finally have pictures now!  Ribbon and cloths pins for hanging photos, and a hand painted initial, which I painted myself   these are from aliciabock.etsy.com.... not going to lie to you all, i printed them out myself, because I'm a poor college student... Normally I wouldn't do such a thing (since it's kind of stealing) but I do plan to purchace some of her photography eventually when I have money, so I went ahead and did this to tide myself over...   One of my fav. projects, which of course was difficult to photograph! I took... »MORE

Um, I kind of have the coolest roommate ever...

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

So, I get home from yet another weekend that was eaten up by other people dictating what I have to do (oh, how I love my family), and the apartment seems to be torn apart, almost.... there is new stuff everywhere! My roommates locker thing from her room is now in the living room, there is a dresser in the living room, a table a 3-drawer plastic thingy.... Um, I just kind of went "huh?" and then promptly wrote her a note on our message board (an antique 4 pane window we have hanging in the kitchen that we write... »MORE

Thank you very much for the kind words!  It certainly is a load off, and now I can concentrate on the things that attracted me to architecture in the first place.

Ah, a Hoosier! Welcome!

Don't worry-- Indiana is where I found some of my BEST vintage goods. And the cool thing is, there is a definite lack for style, which means--- LOW PRICES!

Trust me, I once scored a bakelite cameo for $2 from a garage sale b/c the owner thought it was plastic. I sold it out here for $400!

See, Indiana's not all that bad...

Thanks for commenting on my article! You're right -- I think the photo for Taurus could be a little formal for a collegiate Bull. Most Tauruses your age do well with a great mix of sleek style (showing off your great taste), even if it's from a vintage shop (thinking mid-century modern furniture that looks great and is built to last), plus some cool art, film posters, maybe your own photos. But far be it for me to give a stylish Taurus decorating advice anyhow! :-)

Welcome! I saw that you are from Indianapolis (as am I) and if you are going to school in Indy, and looking for cheap ways to furnish that exciting new apartment, make sure you join the indy freecycle group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IndyFreecycleNetwork/ ) -- there is always a ton of great stuff available, and all it costs is a drive to pick it up!

 Cheers!

Thanks for the nice comment! I think cork would work fine. Actually, we've found that we never really put water in the tubes anyway, since we usually just use the vases for one night or so.
