Upholstery Cleaners?

By kristinirene

We have a Todd Oldham for LazBoy couch in a soft/"cotton" or synthetic cotton-y tweed.  Now that we are about to move it, I see how dingy the tops of the cushions are.  Supposedly this fabric is stain-resistant, but it needs sprucing up.  Any ideas for good fabric cleaners?

Now I wish I'd bookmakred that website about this very thing. Basically, one day I needed to clean my wing chair. I took a huge suirt of dish soap (I think) and a teeny bit of water in an old ice cream container and made loads of bubbles. Using *just* the bubbles, I worked it into the arms of the chair with a soft brush. The upholstery gets too damp to sit on, but not wet enough to soak through. And it gets clean.

personally, i was ecstatic with the results i got from bissell's little green.  i had a once-fabulous lavender (!) chaise whose pastel coloring made it the perfect canvas (ironically, it was indeed made of canvas fabric) for every speck of dirt that ever entered my house. when my redecorating plans dictated that i sell it, my friends thought i couldn't give it away because surely it could never be sufficiently cleaned to make it attractive again. ... but this little machine erased *all* of the dinginess without even too much elbow grease.

oh wait, come to think of it, i used it again recently on a dining room chair after accidentally leaking *dark brown mahogany wood stain* onto its upholstery.  i thought it was a goner, of course.  granted, in this case, treating the (oil-based) stain with mineral spirits was probably more instrumental than anything else, but the little green did suck up the mess for me, and now the chair (another pale fabric) is amazingly good as new.

i don't mean to sound like an advertisement. the little green comes with a small supply of cleaning solution, but it wasn't incredible and it didn't go far.  i got the results described above using some "as seen on tv" pink solution that i bought at the state fair.  (yeah, i'm one of *those* suckers, apparently.)  i'll find out the name of that goop later.
