A complete design fanatic stuck in a therapist's body!!! Let me out.
I get fixated all day long with design, particularly minimalist and functional stuff that is ancient and likely european or euro-influenced. I love the focus now on paring down and making homes workable and comfortable, esp. small spots.
I suck at being a craftsperson, but I have fantastic ideas; this brain comes up with some great stuff, but I need my gerard malanga, you know?

Reupholstering Chair Cushions???
By kristinirene
Here in Sunny Florida, a typical garage sale will consist of junk, junk, junk, junk and then miraculously, a vintage 70's heavy rattan chair for $5! I lucked upon a divorce sai last week and this guy sold me a swivel base rattan chair with cushions for yes, $5. However, the back and seat cushions are a crime against humanity. They are a bleached out salmon-colored wide wale corduroy and they luckily are easily removed with velcro-backed straps.
The cushions themselves are in good shape, but how would a person who has no clue how to sew most easily cover these up? I honestly have never even paid anyone to reupholster a thing, so if anyone in the St. Petersburg/Tampa area is reading this and has a connection in town, let me k » READ MORE
Painting over a cheap wood nightstand?
By kristinirene
I wanna paint over a cheap pine, stained nightstand I bought junk saling today with a "high gloss enamel" to achieve a 1950's "Oriental" look. Can someone reccommend a brand (Lowe's stock preferred) to do this with? Can we just paint over the old stuff? Thanks--never done this before!

Re: Bamboo screen finish...I was hoping you were aiming for a distressed paint finish cause that would of been easy. :) Guess ya gotta strip it. I used some of that cirtus strip stuff recently and smell was good, think non-caustic too. Another thought, maybe a thin liquid product would dissolve it, depending on ppppppppoil or latex. I picked up to 1 gal cans of liquid strip and it cleans hard paint brushes that I forgot to clean. Think it works on oil & latex.
Can you work outside? Protect eyes. Maybe you can give it a final rinse at a car wash (self serve) if you can't at home.
Hard to say w/o seeing it in person. Tip: on some things, I have had great luck using Old English to fill in scratches (after stripping) so maybe you don;t have to fully strip all???. Good luck!
