It sounds a lot like Trading Spaces.  A LOT of those people weren't happy with the results.  Apparently, the rooms usually looked cheap and very amateurish.  Of course, the budget wasn't the same as Designers Challenge.

I did hear about the Extreme Makeover problem a while back.  That was really tragic for those kids and I hope ABC did something for them, although I doubt it. All I can say to that family that got the house is what goes around, comes around, and karma will prevail.
