Organizing your clothes
By jflogoI was just wondering how people have their clothes organized or stored.
Right now, I'm a student staying in college dorms, but I'm moving out next spring. Once I do that, I don't want drawers or have everything really in the closet. I've always wanted things kind of set up like a clothing store on tables displayed, well except my underwear of course. Of course, I would need to still conserve space.
What do you people have going?

I am with you! I need to see all my clothes, or I won't wear them. I haven't had a dresser in years. What I have right now is a big metal shelf unit with adjustable shevles. I rigged up a hanging rod high enough to hand shirts below, and on top are folded piles. If you don't have room for one of these in your closet, you can cover it with fabric and it looks really nice out in the room.
On the other side of my closet, I have a mesh drawer set from Ikea. I have 2 canvas drawers for small items, and the other 4 are wire so stuff is still partially visible. It also has a wooden top at counter height for laying stuff out.
And hooks are great for bags or jackets you need to grab easily!

I am new to organization in terms of myclothes. I have tons of clothes. Definately more than'the average bear;. I have my spring and summer grouped together in a back closet and the fall winter in my main closet now. I am lucky enough to have 2 closets at the moment. Still, I need to keep them organized so i wear everything not just the same stuff all the time.
runmy(above) has a similar theme. i have my skirts and shirts and 'shorter' things together, under that I have plastic bins with my underwear, bras, tights, camesols etc. Then I have all my pants that i hang all together ten my dresses hung together. On top i have a two shelf crap thing from target but it does help. On there I keep shirts, mostly by color, tshirts etc. Then on the other side and eveywhere else I have tons of sweaters
On the door i have a ghanger thing that holds a shoe rack. I use the hangers for my scarfs(hair scarfs) and shoe bags for that. I also have kept my snneaker boxes and my sneaks go in the boxes.
I just bought a condo(yay me!) and I will be moving into a place with practically no closet space so I am wondering what will happen myself. I have already bought space bags to store, as much as I hate to say it!
this is more than anyone wants to know anout me!

I divide them into
Tshirts - folded and color coded
Underwear and socks - in drawers in plastic baskets to contain them
Things that need to be hung - according to length and type - allows me to put in a low stand alone shelf in the closet for accesories and stuff on "display" so that I will use them more often!
Belts are grouped together on a hanger
Shoes go into a separate cabinet

My wardrobe is not fit to be photographed at the moment but I felt the same way about how I store my clothes. On one wall in the guest room I hung a row of double hooks for belts, scarves and jackets (the various colors and textures remind me of art) and mounted a shelf over the hooks for other stuff. I use (on all of the dresser top space) collapsible bins for underwear, socks and gym clothes. I have a garment rack for my work clothes to keep those ready. Because I keep the shoeboxes that shoes come in, I have those cubed together on what used to be an entertainment stand. There is also extra shoe storage on the bottom shelf of the garment rack. If we didn't have to have a bed in the guest room, it would be set up more like a shop with an additional double garment rack for everything else.
I also hung a 7-ft wide vertical blind from the ceiling as a room divider so the guests don't have to feel like they are in the same room as my clothes while they are laying down. I was rather proud.
I don't know why, but I'd rather hang clothes than fold them. Must be the years I spent in retail!
Have fun.

Hey! Thanks for the welcome.
I know this sounds retarded, but I color code my clothes, sort of like a store display. Only b/c I work in marketing, I divide my work clothes w/ my fun clothes, and my basics from my bold pieces. This way, when I wake up and want to make a statement, I know which closet to hit first!
