My wife and have competing desires: we love the city, but we want to live in the country. We were fortunate to find a happy compromise in a hundred-year-old house on two-thirds of an acre just ten minutes from Portland. The house is a beast, but we love it: no insulation, many windows, all sorts of leaks, nightmare plumbing and electrical systems. We're learning as we go.
