Wow, what a subject...But I do have experience in this. Years agO, I was reading that the average funeral costs about $6,700. My sis and I, both avid DIY'er and construction tradespoeple want cremation @ $1,700.

(Brand new laptop w/ lots of typos as I get used to new keyboard....sorry)

I preplanned my grandma's funeral cause my Dad couldn;t emotionlly do it. I arrangend for my sister-in-law body to be transported to a local big ten university )biological donatipon) and assisted in my Dad's funeral planning after his decease from cancer.

MOST funeral homes are no owned by For-Profit corporatons. I recommend locating a local, privaely owned funeral home. Do NOT be swayed by the funeral staff aka salesmen. Try to do what you think the deceased wanted....grand or modest.

All caskets and the concrete rectangular boxes that hold them (I FORGET THE NAME), fail after a given amount of time. So no need to pay extra for "protection". Sorry I that seems gory or creepy...just a fact.

I could say more but will stop w/ that. Tho I will leave an example of price difference.

Example: transporting a body from point A to B, from various local funeral homes, traveling same distance.....range from $1995 to $395 for same service. That's a big difference.

This is an unusua topic for a diy decorating website but you know what they say, death and taxes are the 2 things that always happens.
