Let the games begin: Project 1

By inkyR Dining1

I just quit my job and will begin academic reasearch on Jan. 8. I needed a space that was a little more open than the bedroom (where our computers are) and had more natural light. Our condo is small with only two small bedrooms (the kiddo occupies the second), and although I've been fully moved in for almost three weeks, most of my stuff is still in boxes or in the garage at my grandmother's house.

Our dining room is off the kitchen and opens into the living room. As you can see in the second photo has a little eating bar.

We have agreed to turn the dining room into an office space for my work. Here is the dining room pre-move in.

I spent a couple of hours at Lowe's trying to find the perfect color for my new room. I wish I » READ MORE

Painting over pressboard: Yeay or nay?

By inkyR Img_0295_medium

We have cupboards made of what I think is pressboard. They are very plain, look like wood, but actually aren't. I am interested in painting the cupboards as well as the wood boarder around the counters.

Does anyone have experience with this? Is there a good way and/or a bad way (to avoid)?

I am trying to avoid further tackiness, but the pressboard look is just killing me. I'd like them to look more modern without having to replace them (yet, anyway!)

Now & Zen

By inkyR Home-kids2

I keep up to date on trendy and semi-trendy - as well as not-so-trendy - home improvement and home therapy ideas through various RSS feeds I subscribe to. The art of the blog has really come a long way developing into more than just a place for chatty, bored (albeit funny) mamas and metropolitain singles looking for love. Its use as a way to gather all kind of ideas and information in one place and collaging it all together has become and every day convenience. Like buying music on the internet. Sometimes, I find myself wishing I could just grab the Apartment Therapy "catalogue" from my desk to flip through while I watch the next installment of Weeds - and then I remember that Apartment Therapy a blog. I think that’s » READ MORE

A cozy home

By inkyR Bedroom2s

I just moved (Thanksgiving weekend) my cozy, white-draped home from a small 20's-era studio into my partner's condo, which was built in the 1980s. The studio is a very bright corner unit with lots of windows (that are not heat efficient, by the way!) and natural light. It was very easy to be happy in this place just from the natural light bouncing off the bright walls. MY favorite space, of course, was where I slept.

The image hanging was done by a peer in a letterpress course I took at The Evergreen State College via project swap. The ball is hanging with natural string; it is an orange stuck with cloves. (It makes a great holiday freshner - and also a great homemade gift!)
