Alternatives to Drop Ceiling panels?

By incubus_of_habit

We're finishing our basement into a 'poor mans loft'. By that, I'd like to keep it a bit 'as-is'. We've stained the concrete floor, are going to leave the steel i-beams and brick fireplace exposed. And while I like the look of exposed ceiling joists, this is an OLD house, so the ceiling is a bit of a mess. I'd like to put in a floating drop ceiling (leaving a few feet gap around the edge). I want to leave some of the joists exposed, but have a mo » READ MORE

Modern OUTDOOR rugs?

By incubus_of_habit

Anyone have any sources of nice, modern outdoor rugs?

We need a rug for our basement remodel, but we need one that can withstand moisture coming through the slab over time. There's a variety of polypropelne rugs out there, but all we've found in terms of colors/ patterns are either ones that attempt to look like Jute (tan) or ones with more traditional patterns on them.

Need Sofa Help. Modern sectionals?

By incubus_of_habit

I really like the Todd Oldham La-z-boy Velerie Section. The catch? It doesn't appear to be in a store anywhere outside of manhattan. I'd really prefer to actually SIT on a sofa before buying it.

So, questions:

1) Has anyone ever sat in this couch? How was it?

2) Anyone know of any sectionals that would have the same aesthetics as this one?

3) Ideally, it'd be modern, kid-friendly, and, a bonus, an outside corner option (like the valerie).

Gas Fireplaces. Alternatives to fake logs?

By incubus_of_habit

We're finishing our basement into a 'poor mans' loft space. We're staining the concrete floors, leaving a lot of the ceiling exposed, possibly putting in a concrete-topped built in desk in the office area.

On one side of the basement we have a massive original brick fireplace. We've decided to get a gas insert. We chose the plainest/cleanest insert we could find (not a fan of the brass/wrought iron/etc.)

The only thing that really bugs me about it » READ MORE
