Any suggestions for an art studio?

By hilljacquard

I recently got a fairly large space in an new home, and would like to start a screen printing studio and open art studio space for some locals. It currently is about 800 square feet, well lit, and plumbed for a wash basin. Anyone have any DIY suggestions or general ideas on how the space could be used? Essentially I would like some space for screen printing, 2 cubbies for individual work, painting, drawing etc...

The space is about 850 sq. feet, and any input would be greatly appreciated!

I'd set up a 'station' in each corner: silkscreen where the plumbing is, one for painting/drawing, one for sculpture, graphic design (computers) etc... Make a large table (maybe 8'x8', with two 4'x8' sheets of plywood/OSB/MDF as a top) and place it in the center, where varying artists can get together. Then, use the walls for cubbies, and run cables across the walls for drying prints, display, etc.

How's the wiring? Is there adequate amperage for different kinds of tools? After a while, extension cords will get dangerous.

Have any photos? I'm sure those would inspire some responses.

Cheers.
