Fun Fabric

By heylucy

I'm about to paint my guest house all white inside and I have two built-in (poorly made, but very solid) bookcases which I am using to store fabric and other creative supplies. I want to hang curtains in front of them to cover up the clutter, but I'm having a hard time finding just the right fabric. Because they will be a large portion of the room, covering almost an entire wall, I want something really unique and interesting. My fabric choice will also set the tone for the rest of the decor. I love these Florence Broadhurst prints, but (a) they're Australian and I have no idea if I can get them in the U.S. and (b) they're might pricey at AUS$143/meter.

Does anyone have any sources for fun, unique, reasonably priced fabrics? Local fabric stores don't have anything interesting, and online I've looked around reprodepot.com, but they didn't have anything that really spoke to me either.

Hey, I couldn't find the sweaters you mention, but they sound awesome - can you post a direct link or a picture?

Waverly is in man. I know this is a interior design website, but you know patterns are in and are going to be getting huge in a few months/next year when street wear designers are doing allover patterned sweaters in waverly. Check it... GRNAppleTree

Thanks guys! I didn't know that Waverly had gotten so much cooler, and I love Amy Butler, I may go with something from her Bella collection. I love reprodepot, but I didn't find anything that was 'just perfect' for this project, I'll check out tonicliving, I've never seen that site before.

here are two sites that i stumbled upon: tonicliving.com & reprodepot.com. very cool and moderately priced.  if you are ever making a trip out west - downtown los angeles features the fabric district, where you can get great styles for roughly $5 a yard.  here's what i did:  http://dressyournest.blogspot.com/2006/11/dyi-idea-for-pillows.html

Oh, I also meant to add: even if you can afford these, you can still use these fabric swatch images as your background on Curbly! My girl Alicia is doing just that!

Here's how: find the URL of the image you want to use as your background tile (right click on the image and click 'properties'). Then, edit your profile, click on the 'advanced css' link, and enter this in the text field:

div.body {
background:url(INSERT THE FULL URL OF THE IMAGE HERE, INCLUDING THE HTTP PART);
}
