I see it's been awhile since anyone was in ojn this topic. In my experince of pricing Murphy beds they tend to cost...too much! Sometime back I found a site with "Murphy style" bed hardware kits for Twin, Full, or Queen priced at $299.00. You then build and customize the cabinetry to your liking. As for myself I'm still weighing the options of platform bed, loft bed, and Murphy bed, but, you may want to check out www.wallbed.com.

I believe I've heard an advertisement for Murphy "style" beds that also mentioned something about a desk or table changing to a bed. This is a new & welcome trend, especially if you want something useful that can morph into an extra bed for company.

Hi Beccajo. I don't know how the Murphy Beds compare, but I'm guessing you'll pay a little for the brand name. In my mind, one of the smartest things to do with a bed is to custom design a frame which more effectively utilizes the massive potential storage space under the bed. This could include drawers (keeping the bed closer to the ground) or even a crawl-space size area under the bed enclosed by woodwork or some artistically framed base. For rooms with a high ceiling, I've seen some beds that are elevated above the desk area. ~ Gregory

How timely! I was just about to start my research on murphy beds for my new place. I took a quick look at the price list, and it seems a wee bit high. I've never bought a bed before though so is that comparable to a 'fixed' bed frame?
