Do-it-yourselfers coming out of the woodwork...

A Google News search on "DIY home" without quotes currently results in 602 stories. However, this number is anticipated to rise in the weeks and months ahead as the DIY movement expands.

According to an article in today's Times Leader of Northeastern Pennsylvania, do-it-yourselfers are coming out of the woodwork. "The homeowners most likely to strap on tool belts are middle-class types who have enough money to pay for high-quality materials and who would rather put in sweat equity than have a contractor install cheap stuff," said Chris Jensen, executive editor of the trade magazine Hardware Retailing.

People who choose to construct small homes state that one of their motivations is being able to choose ferwer materials of higher quality rather than building bigger with low-grade materials. This translates into lower costs to heat and maintain while offering higher resale value. ~ Gregory
