What matches a navy blue wall?

By gloostickdesign

Before I moved into our studio, my boyfriend got rebellious on our management company and painted one wall navy blue.  What, you may ask, matches a navy blue wall?  Let me explain: my boyfriend has lived in the same apartment since graduating college.  He faithfully adhered to the post collegiate vibe until I moved in and um, gave it a little TLC.  Goodbye black beanbag, flags, movie posters, plaid throws and black furniture.

So you see, at one time, navy may have matched the plaidness growing like mold in this studio.  Since we only have two rooms and there are two very dirty white walls opposing the navy wall, I need to find a color that is subtle and compliments (hopefully tones down) the navy blue wall.  Since we have gross grey carpet, I'd like to stay away from greys, beiges and cremes. They all depress me.

Help!

thanks for the nice comments. if you're really interested in the exact color green i could probably find the can in may basement. not that i like to paint or anything but i probably at least 30 different colors stockpiled at this point. i'm like one of those people for the british changing rooms..."we found 30 different kinds of paint, 3 extra chairs, and 5 rug and 27 pillows in stacia's storage." lol.

thanks everyone!  love the colors, stacia.  as you can see, I toned down the blue with a neutral couch but added some color with the pillows.  I kept thinking green would compliment the wall but I couldn't find the right shade.

Thanks for the advice, Keter.  I'll definitely repaint the walls but the carpet is beyond a carpet cleaner.  My father is a carpet manufacturer and I know when carpet has no hope :-(.  I would have torn it out ages ago but the apartment is just not worth that much effort.  It would encourage my boyfriend to put up with this place so I can't make it look too spectacular!

Thanks All!

Great design, stacia.  :o)

I agree, green might be what you need.  Note how the subtle green in stacia's room balances the blue wall and grey floor.  Note the white accents and the rug, too.

But before I comitted to any purchases, I would do a couple of things first:  repaint the dirty walls white and rent a carpet cleaner.  It's really hard to do any visualization past stuff like that.

check my photos. i just posted a couple. note that the blue is much more navy than it looks in the photo. i didn't spent any time of the photo.
