How Cool: A Bookshelf Made from Books.

By fabulouslygreen Picture+6

My love for books spilleth over this morning. Bookish design finds and inspiration for home, office or your closet. This wall unit by Vitra contributing designer Werner Asslinger redefines the definition of the word ‘bookshelf.’ An interesting functional mix of old materials (those outdated titles) with a modernist’s love of modular: How Studio Asslingler puts these books in balance: Via Fabulously Green: DesignSpotter   »MORE

Weekend Makeover: Fab Chair Cushions

By fabulouslygreen 384215782_f0216572c9

Looking for a quick style fix this weekend? Give any chair a fresh faced look by sewing a simple cushion. Sure you could upholster them in any fabric, but a rescued, vintage print injects an extra je ne sais quoi. Take this pair of cushions for example by Kim of Desire to Inspire: [I] found two scarves at a cheesy store - they were $7.50 each. Not so sure about the left one, but I love the pattern on the right one. It’s ok that they don’t really match each other because they’re going on opposite sides of the bed. Where to Score... »MORE

Modern Convertible Furniture

By fabulouslygreen 311315123_803d4893b3

I’m a veritable addict for convertible, collapsible, multifunctional pieces (like the modern murphy beds we all went crazy for last month). So falling in love with designer Akemi Tanaka’s furniture collection was inevitable: The Tagei is available only through the designer. Personally I love the striped fabric she’s chosen for upholstery, but it can be upholstered using other custom fabrics if you request it. Some photos of the Tagei “at home” [via Inhabitat] And a glimpse of Akemi Tanaka’s Futaba coffee table-loveseat that debuted last year: Futaba by Akemi Takana, available at inmod The Fab Factor: Akemi Takana’s collection is hand-crafted from renewable bamboo plywood and finished off with an eco-friendly non-voc danish... »MORE

Eyecatching Wall Dividers from Water Bottles

By fabulouslygreen Waterwall1_medium

Klein Dytham Architecture designed this space for the Danone Company whose main product lines include Evian and Volvic water–using their products as design material for the space. The Concept: Translucent screens were made to create special zones for seating, and meetings in an otherwise open plan office. Empty Evian bottles were strung on wires stretching from floor to ceiling like beads on a string. The Fab Factor: Though it’s not clear if they used recycled bottles for this project, it’s got the makings of a bubbly green idea. Fab fun with recycling. Haute Hack | Design Your Own Bistro Table

By fabulouslygreen Ikeahack_medium

Here’s a great idea for turning a blah bistro table into a bold, designer statement. This IKEA bistro table was once a blonde, but now it’s gone red. The pattern was inspired by a Louis L’Amour book. Link for details: http://fabgreen.com/2008/02/12/haute-hack-design-your-own-bistro-table/ »MORE

Design This: Newsworthy Wallpaper

By fabulouslygreen Newspaper-wall_medium

This fabulous DIY wallpaper treatment came from a high-end Italian furniture catalog of all places. A $6,000 plus Italian-crafted bed set against a wallpaper of newspaper that costs--if recycled, almost nothing. How to Fab Your Walls It's all about experimenting with what you've got. Look around your space, or a friend's. You can use almost anything: Pages from an old book: I couldn't sell back my outdated Norton Anthologies, so I'm prepping those wafer thin pages to cover a column in 17th century poetry. There's like, 2000 pages in all. Postcards from the edge: If you're someone whose friends and... »MORE
