The bottom entrance opens onto this big space. It's cold on this level of the house, partly because of the tiles, also because little direct light comes in. You can see the dark patches. The stove against the chimney doesn't work. We use this space as a work room (computer, painting, other projects). Eventually we'd like to open up this space to connect it to the kitchen behind it, put in wood floors with radiant heat, and replace those skinny wood beams with reinforced steel ones. This room needs light and love! Any ideas of how to do all that without spending a fortune?
