rethink wallpaper
By erinnAccent walls are a great way to add color, depth and interest to a room without committing yourself 100% to a bold or bright color, since it is much easier to repaint one wall rather than four. But instead of a red wall, which is so popular today, why not try wallpaper for your accent wall?
In previous years, great wallpaper patterns and colors seemed to be available largely only to trades people and designers and were really expensive. But j » READ MORE
suggestions for keeping home improvement costs under control
By erinnPlanning and research. Planning and research. Way before you start ripping out a piece of your existing home, do your homework. I will use a bathroom renovation as an example.
First make a list of all the work that you would like to do. Don't forget the little things. For example:
- replace fixtures (toilet, shower/tub and vanity/sink)

room palettes: Domino Mag
By erinnFor the color-challenged and also just for some great inspiration, I often refer to Domino magazine. I find their paint palette gallery to be very easy on the eyes. Everyone needs a little color jump-start once in awhile.

I made a mental list of the things that I brought with us in order to make our stay more comf » READ MORE
big bed, new room
By erinnWe got our new bed. It's a king size. I am still not conviced about the bigness of it all. King beds scream "Toll Brothers subdivision house" or "master suite" to me. And I am still not used to sleeping so far away from DH.

That's the bed. I do love our sleep number mattress though. I have not had the lower back pain I did before. Gosh, I sound old!
But I am still amazed at how different our bedroom looks and feels without the cano » READ MORE
I had a thought
By erinnWhat if I used a different Marimekko fabric to inspire each room of our house? Would my husband go crazy? A little overboard? Yes, I love them that much.

But seriously. My husband and I have been talking about a tent or canopy over our deck. And I saw that Marimekko makes plastic coated fabrics. I wonder if they would withstand the elements?

All one would need are a few metal poles in concrete sono-tube, some wire and grommets. I thi » READ MORE
