I am: an architect licensed in the State of Pennsylvania (new residential, additions and renovations in all styles, restorations, space planning, interiors consulting, DIY project help, owners' rep for construction projects)

My house: small and manageable, open floor plan on the first floor, a work in progress, walkable town with sidewalks and a great cafe, but close to my favorite big box store (target) and not too far from the city (philly) where I can get my favorite home accessories.

Last thing I bought: a king size Sleep Number mattress and metal platform bed.

I like: modern, some country mixed in, a couple of mid-century modern pieces, definitely clean lines whether it be metal or wood, well-designed graphic prints, mostly muted, but varied color palettes, with splashes of bold or bright color thrown in and organization.

I love: (my husband, of course) thomas o'brien, kelly hoppen, david salmela, miller + hull, bohlin cywinski jackson, josef albers, john hejduk, sarah susanka, the not so big house, marimekko, pre-fab, leed, flipping houses, investing in real estate, helping people be happy with their homes...

I dislike: toll brothers and design snobs.

rethink wallpaper

By erinn Wallpapers

Accent walls are a great way to add color, depth and interest to a room without committing yourself 100% to a bold or bright color, since it is much easier to repaint one wall rather than four.  But instead of a red wall, which is so popular today, why not try wallpaper for your accent wall? In previous years, great wallpaper patterns and colors seemed to be available largely only to trades people and designers and were really expensive.  But just today I was checking out American Blinds, Wallpaper & More (Decorate Today) and was pleasantly surprised by their selections. ... »MORE

suggestions for keeping home improvement costs under control

By erinn Dscn2071

Planning and research.  Planning and research.  Way before you start ripping out a piece of your existing home, do your homework.  I will use a bathroom renovation as an example. First make a list of all the work that you would like to do.  Don't forget the little things.  For example: replace fixtures (toilet, shower/tub and vanity/sink)new faucets at shower/tub and sinknew floornew tile surround at shower/tubnew lights and exhaust fanpaintnew accessories (towel bars & hooks, tp holder, mirror/medicine cabinet, etc...)window coverings Make a binder.  Pull images from books and magazines of bathrooms that you like.  Browse your home improvement... »MORE

I love the comparison to a formulaic "1920s-style murder mystery." By god man, it's true!

In my opinion, Erinn's taste is trendy elegance...with wild animals mixed in.  Her husband hunts.

Seriously fabs down-to-earth profile.  Love it.   And I too dislike huge houses.  No offense to any big-homed Curbley folks.
