Love Target? Read on...

By erinloechner

Ok this rumor has been floating around the Internet for weeks now, and I thought it was time to do a little digging.

The story goes that, at Target, full prices end in 9. You know the drill, $19.99, $14.99. Every time Target discounts an item, the final digit of the price drops. For instance, that candle you've been coveting has dropped to $8.48. The lowest the final digit will go is 4. So, if you see something you want and the price ends in 4, buy it. You won't get it for less.

True or not true?

Survey says?

TRUE, for $300, Alex.

After checking in with the local Target's very friendly Customer Service Rep (who wishes to remain nameless), this system has been proven. So don't fret: if it ends in 4, wait no more!

A VERY helpful hint for us Target lovers...

I'd never heard this rumor, but in shopping Target clearance for years I noticed it myself.  Never thought to pass it on.  And if you notice all of a sudden the clearance items are just not there anymore.  Head to the nearest Goodwill.  Target, at least around here give their left over clearance to them.  Or even things that have been returned after being opened.

Ooo, good to know. I hadn't heard this one before; will pass it along to my other Target junkie friends.

yepers! that is true. there are discount codes worked into the clearence prices. I used to work the stockroom at a target in highschool. I remember, albeit vaguely, there are 3 markdown stages within the shelf-life of a discontinued item. 30% - 50% - 70%. Also, it's up to the department heads to markdown their stuff, but often things are missed, resulting in a nice surprise at the register. You may find a 30% markdown has actually become a 70% because it has spent enough time on the shelf. (pre-scan the markdowns, you might be surprised)

this is very cool, I'd never heard the rumor, I must be out of the loop of target, which, in fact, may be a good thing.

Awesome. Thanks! I can't get out of Target without spending less than $30 in one trip--even if I just go in for shampoo.

if your looking for discounted target stuff, go to goodwill, or as my hubby and i call it- target outlet.

I think a price ending in 4 usually coincides with a 70% clearance price, which is the largest discount Target ever seems to  run on any item.
