By erinloechner 387991562_d46c46df93_b

It's been awhile since I've checked out this tutorial (which is fabulous, by the way), and in doing so, I'm immediately reminded of Flickr member SimplyPhoto and her excellent photo wall. Want a wall similar to hers? No problem. WHAT YOU NEEDBinder clips, paperclips, mini-clothespins... the gamut. You can find these at any local craft or office supply store.Fishing wire, which you can find at any local sporting goods store. Two pushpins for each row of photos you wish to create. Think Spring? Think Clean.

By erinloechner 0805_cover_350

Spring cleaning is like my LEAST favorite thing to do in the entire world. So naturally, it's a good thing the brains over at Real Simple have created the MOTHER of all Spring Cleaning Tutorials. I've listed a few of my favorite tips below, but feel free to check out Real Simple's archives for more fabulous expert advice! WALLS Arrange furniture six inches from walls instead of flush against them so there will be fewer smudges from bumping to tend to later. You’ll also have easier access to dusty corners that need a visit from a dust mop. FLOORSEighty percent... »MORE

Floral 101: Designing with Nature's Own

By erinloechner Gasl_flowers_vases08_02_medium

One of the best ways to welcome summer into your home is to take a cue from nature itself: blooms, bouquets and bushes. But is it possible to create the floral look without feeling as if you live in a funeral home? We think so. Get creative with flowers and follow these easy steps: THINK FRESHSure, the easiest way to bring florals indoors is to arrange a nice bouquet of fresh flowers from the market or garden. When considering a bouquet, choose a similar or complementary color scheme. If you're going for a long/lean look, keep the stems and leaves... »MORE

Do the Math: Your Carbon Footprint

By erinloechner Jr_greencarbonfootprint07_thumb

With everyone going green these days, how do you know when you're in the red? Is your carbon footprint a size 7 or a size 7,077? If you're like most people, you've probably never evaluated your lifestyle in terms of an actual carbon footprint. Sure, you recycle, and on a good day you'll bike to work, but how do you know if it's enough? Good thing Curbly has the scoop. I checked out CarbonFootprint.Com today to find out more about life in the green, and not suprisingly, a calculator does the dirty work for you! Simply input a few key... »MORE

readers write: samantha hahn.

By erinloechner Untitled

Ok readers--- I need your help. My good friend Samantha Hahn (you may have seen her lovely Brooklyn bedroom in the latest eZine issue) has been working her tail off with some fabulous textiles and the result is FANTASTIC.My favorite patterns are here and here, but she's got a great range and some really impressive application photos. We've been in contact for a month now trying to get this biz off the ground, but I have ZERO experience in the textile industry. Is there a reader out there that can give Samantha the push she needs in the right direction?Contact... »MORE

By erinloechner Anothertime

After the most spectacular SoCal weather this weekend, I've got the SERIOUS Monday morning lazies, so I wanted to kick off the week with a bit of ravishing Rachel. This gal makes me weak in the knees, and if I could pick one artist to morph into a breakfast food that I can eat, it would be Rachel Salomon, and I'd build a restaurant called the Salomon Buffet and it would just be trays after trays of her art, but food.OMG I'm not making any sense this morning.I'm done. Here's a link to her site and her bio, b/c she's awesome. »MORE
