Fading Bamboo / Cork Flooring - Can it be avoided?
By eichlerWe installed engineered bamboo flooring in our California modern Eichler home. We chose engineered bamboo flooring since we 1) needed a flooring material that was compatible with our in-floor, hydronic radiant heating system, 2) we liked the look of bamboo flooring as well as the eco-friendly nature of the material.

About 3-6 months post-install, we started to notice some fairly significant fading in areas where the bamboo flooring was covered with floor coverings or furniture (photo, left: bamboo flooring with fading). This is consistent with some of the fading that some of our clients have experienced with cork flooring (photo, right: cork flooring with significant fading).
I know that some fading is to be expected however i'm curious to find out if others have found either cork or bamboo flooring that is more resistant to this type of fading. I've got to believe that there is some variability in terms of vendors products, with some being more resistant to this type of fading and discoloration.
If you've found bamboo or cork that seems resistent to fading (or if you can recommend products or sealants that help retard the process), I would love to hear about it. Covering our floor-to-ceiling walls of glass isn't a practical option so we would love to hear your suggestions.
