hmmm...?

By eepy!

So Wendi and i bought our first house in NC. We have a "dining room" that has hardwood floors and a 3 windoe set that looks out to the backyard. We have no friends or family in the area to pop by so a formal dining room is not necessary and probably wouldnt be used. Wendi and I like to drink wine and I like to relax with NPR and something to drink so I was interested in a more "adult" oriented space but not a bar per se in the frat boy sense. I have yet to find something like what I want. Anyone have any ideas?

If you're in to prints, a cheap, attractive wall-art solution is to frame wrapping paper. Lux Paperie is a good place to start (I like the Snow & Graham stuff).

Cool! I will post pics when we move in so you guys can have a better idea. We found a table and chairs that are of the folding variety but are wood. The chairs have padded seats so I think it would work. Just imagine a squaer, now I picture a chair (leather maybe?) in the top left corner with a hutch that is alcohol oriented on the left wall but that shwere the insp. ends. I guess I need to get in there. I really appreciate your guys comments. You are giving me great ideas!

You may want to dine there sometime... so why not a Cafe Dining table?  They're tall like bar seats but more sophisticated styles make the scene more grown up.  I'd try an espresso stained set in the center of the dining room with maybe some lounge-y furniture near the windows and some sort of stereo/entertainment in the corner.  Good luck.

Awesome! I have to figure it out. We aren't in the house yet but I really want it to be very "sophisticated". I have some "To Kill a Mockingbird" prints that I want to hang. I really appreciate your input. I need to find some cool vintage furniture to rework!

you might try something very funky/loungey.... It reminds me of this hidden room that one of my friends had in their house... there was only one tiny door to get into the room, which was oddly in the corner, and you go in and it's just this teeny room that you wouldn't even know was there otherwise, and they had it all decked out in black, white, and red... it had a very mod lounge feel.... now, obviously your dining room isn't hidden, but you could try something similar by getting some good furniture pieces (whatever you would think of as lounge-like), your wife could sew up some great plush throw pillows (i saw that you said that she sews) and you could probably take some awesome photos and put them in b/w and frame them as artwork for the room.... maybe put in a bookshelf and some other cool furniture focal point (prehaps a funky diy coffee table with poetry/quotes/photos/whatever on it) and viola! personal lounge for coffee/tea/wine/whatever.... plus, the lounge can still be used for entertaining, should you choose to do so....
