DIY Ofuro / Soaking Tub

My husband is currently building our modern, passive solar, straw bale home. We are trying to use as many natural or recycled materials as we can. I would love a tub like this but our budget for our tub project is $300. Yep, $300.
As our list of custom projects grow, we ditched the idea of building our own concrete soaking tub (thanks to Splatgirl's good advice).
The new plan is to reuse an old hydrotherapy tub. Here is the winning tub we purchased!
I hope to share photos of finished tub (hopefully within the next few months) to inspire others who are looking for DIY ofuro ideas.
Any comments on refinishing this $100 diamond in the rough will be greatly appreciated!
