modern stool

Images P B000E14Do4.16. Sclzzzzzzz Ss260 V52484218 Here is a decent looking stool from one of our favorite local stores, Target. The price is right at $55, but who knows about the quality. My wife and I bought some bookcases from Target about a year ago, and while they looked nice at a glance, they were really pretty cheap. Anyone seen this one in person? Available from Target for $55

That logo was hot!  If I look too long, my eyes start to hurt, like looking at one of those pictures in a picture from Spencers.

It's local for those of us who live in Minnesota :)

In fact, I live just a few miles from the original Target store (read more). Sadly (or fortunately), the building was recently torn down to make way for a SuperTarget.

And here's what the first logo looked like:

um, yeah, maybe not local as much as near by.

MDF and veneer doesn't mean it's no good.  In fact, you can pay thousands of dollars for something made with MDF and veneer from Ligne Roset or Roche Bobois.  Cheaper products from Target, Ikea, or Wal-Mart are not necessarily made of MDF, but more likely are made with particleboard, which is cheaper, lighter, and lower quailty.

That said, I have a bent plywood side table that I bought from Target a year and a half ago, and it's great.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4768449 Here is another option; a chair, not a stool, and I haven't seen it in person, but it doesn't look bad at all. Just looked at your blog, and bookmarked it. Also a huge MCM fan, but not fond of DWR prices. Always interested in anything MCM!

I didn't try sitting on it, but it didn't look especially well-balanced to me. You might try finding something similar at IKEA or someplace like Pier One or World Market; the craftsmanship won't be stellar, but at least they use real wood.

I figured it wood be at least a wood veneer. Did it at least feel sturdy?

I saw this stool the other day; MFD with a veneer, so I'd pass on it. Real wood isn't something one finds too often in Target's furniture.
