Curbly Challenge - October

From October 01, 2007 To October 29, 2007

There’s something about specific seasons that elicits a desire to eat foods you wouldn’t touch during the rest of the year: Marshmallow Chicks and Cadbury Cream Eggs during Easter, Gelite Fish or Pickled Herring when it’s Passover, and chalky Conversation Hearts ‘round Valentine’s Day.

In the fall, it’s Candy Corn. Imagine popping one of these sickening saccharine, gritty, tri-color triangles in your mouth during a sweltering summer barbecue…

Doesn’t quite work. Yet, for some reason, in October, when mild weather and spicey smells abound, it just seems right.

Thus, the item o’ choice for the October Curbly Challenge is: Candy Corn.

The Challenge: Transform these corn syrupy wedges into something seasonally superior for your home. Or, take a cue from its traditional three color stripes, and use it as an aesthetic for you next creation.

The rules:

    - Your entry should consist of a blog post showing what you did. You must include a photo!

    - Read Curbly Challenge guidelines here.

    - See contest rules here.

The prize: $75 gift card to Amazon.com, and bragging rights all autumn long.

Candy Corn Flower Arrangement

By smbriones Dscn1145_large

My entry is a 'Flower Arrangement' made using Candy Corn. My original idea was to make flowers out of Candy Corn by making it into a gum paste and actually shaping it into realistic looking flowers, but that didn't work out as I planned. I got the Candy Corn to mold, but it would not harden. I finally decided to just try to make flowers out of whole Candy Corn and this is what I came up with.  So, these are pretty simple to make. The hardest part is making sure you don't burn yourself with the glue gun. You... »MORE

Candy Corn Tote

By SilverWing 1761266044_04f41ef547

My new favorite fall accessory!  I love tote bags, as I'm always needing to carry things with me, be they books, craft projects, or otherwise.  I loved the way this bag turned out.  I added the "chocolate" candy corn color to give it a little more punch.  ^^  It's a simple single crochet stich done with four different skeins of yarn. »MORE
