where to hang the stockings?

Like many people, I imagine, I don't have a fireplace or a mantel, so I am sort of at a loss as to where to hang the stockings for a family of 4. It seems weird to have them just stuck on the wall with hooks or something, but I am not sure what else to do. Anyone have any ideas or came up with something cool in a similar situation?

While I was growing up we had a large fish tank and my mom knitted a "fireplace" that framed the tank and gave us a place to hang the stockings.

Yeah. I definately understand this problem! We have a fireplace/mantel, but it's brick. A few years back it took some good thinking on the problem to come up with a solution. Eventually, I ended up wiring a strip of wood molding so there were only two little holes in the wall on either side. The stockings could then be secured to the wood. You could apply this technique anywhere.

If you have a TV cabinetor armoir, you could drap them there for the evening. Under the tree or from the back of a chair are popular too, as I can see from the comments from many others.

You could place a ribbon on your curtain rod, and drape them in a semi circle over your window, as a kind of holiday swag.

There are many places to hang stockings if you don't have a fireplace: 1. If you have a chair rail, you could hang your stockings off of the chair rail. 2. Use ribbon to tie a stocking on to the back of each chair at your kitchn or dining room table. You could make it even fancier by adding bells, pinecones, etc. to the ribbon you use to tie the stockings on. 3. Hang a stocking on the door to each persons bedroom. Again embelish it in the same way I suggested when tying it to the chairs. i hang mine up on the edge of the bar, we dont use it for anything else but decorating the bar-top anyways =)

Simply put them under the tree. As a youngster, it was out last sight as we headed off to bed... with anticipation that in the morning they would be filled by ole St Nick himself. Well, indeed he did! We would awake to a feeling of something big and lumpy at the end of our beds. I loved it... there it was on my bed waiting for me! The thought of Santa coming into my room to "hand deliver" my stuffed stocking was magic to me.

Stick em to the windows with those suction clips you can buy cheaply in any home/hardware store. Or, make a clothing line inspired wall hang in multiple fishnet style layers of a grid style, or put them in some funky decorated basket.

How about putting up an inexpensive decorative wall shelf and then using stocking hangers?

I grew up in a Mid-century modern home, and the stuffed stockings always filled the seat of a Saarinen-style chair on Christmas morning. Delightful for little kiddies, because the goodies peeking out of the top were just at eye level. We didn't hang the stockings up as part of the decor, but I could imagine them spread under the tree until the packages start to pile up.
