Magnetic Spice Board
By chickenbiskitI have invested so much money in spice that I'm pretty sure the story of Dune was inspired by my kitchen. Unfortunately, organizing the many types of spice in my cupboard has been difficult. Several times I have rushed out to buy cumin, only to come home and find that i had three jars of it in the back of the cupboard from previous emergency trips to the grocery store.
Inspired by the magnetic spice racks from Amber on myaimistrue.com, I got the idea to use vertical organization for my spices. Instead of having to fish around in the cupboard and read the label of every spice before finding the one I need, I would use the wall to store them. I plan on printing labels for the spices on colorful sticker paper and affixing the label directly onto the tin. I also plan on putting up another board, which is why the one in the picture looks offcenter. Underneath I will put up stainless steel bars on which I can hang potholders and I might also put up a ledge to put my tall spice jars on.
For assembly I ordered the 12x12 stainless steel magnetic board from fridgedoor.com and krazy glued super strong magnets to the back of watchmaker cases from leevalley.com.

i love this idea too! it's inspired me to think of using magnets in more contexts. i don't have a place to put one of these spice boards, but the thought of affixing magnets to the bottom of my spice bottles and simply setting them on top of the range has crossed my mind.
btw i have the same kitchen cart/island as you! Target rocks.
