Paper clip earrings

By Rob Lolnintendo

Paper Clip Earrings

These are earrings I made from paper clips. I sanded 'em, 'em, primed 'em, and painted 'em.  The pliers I used are regular household needle nose style and the paper clips are the cheap ones from an office supply store.  I bought a pair of sterling silver ear wire which cost $1.90. With the primer and and paint the total cost is for 10 pairs of earrings was about 10 bucks.  Cool.

Use What You've Got

By MarvinWindows

“What’s old is new.” It’s a saying that has become more relevant lately in home decorating. That’s right: Redecorating with things you already have around your home is not only cost-efficient, but it may be just what’s needed for a new, fresh look this season.

Consider using a fluted champagne glass or a round cocktail pitcher as a vase or centerpiece. Put some nice seasonal flowers in them and set them atop a mantel or fireplace » READ MORE

Refashioning! Turning Shirts into Chair Cushions!

By SustainableSuppers

created at: 2009-06-22

Buttercup,

A new pastime has gripped my weekends for some months now: refashioning, wherein one turns thrifted clothes, or those forgotten shirts and dresses apologetically peeking out from the back of the closet, into new outfits or household decor.  It’s a superb hobby: eco-friendly, creative and stress relieving.

Oh, and it rewards and encourages frugality, which we love.

Five Ways to Break a Bad Habit Without Using a Shrink

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created at: 2009-06-22

Recently I've become aware that I'm smack dab in the throes of developing a full blown bad habit. What I once considered nonsensical to participate in, I've slowly submitted to. It's the constant checking of email, Facebook. Curbly posts » READ MORE

Letter and Number Decopauge Jars

By swelldesigner Letter and number decopauge jars

letter and number decopauge

Here's a fast and fun decopauge jar idea that looks really cool and graphic. I'm a big sucker for bold letters and numbers. I love large letters for walls and pillows with giant numbers on them. I don't know what it is...I just love the shapes! I guess my fondness for letters and numbers graphically is attributed to being a graphic designer. I love fonts!

To make these jars, you simply need, jars » READ MORE

Budgeting Your Remodel

By MarvinWindows

By Lou Manfredini
Third in a series

In my last two postings, we talked about the architect and the builder and how important it is to get that combination right when starting your remodel. But I suppose the biggest issue is, how are you going to pay for it?

Creating a budget and planning for contingencies is part of any business proposition, and remember: This is business at this point. Now, if you are flush with cash, then return to » READ MORE

Auctions Done Badly

By honeywest

created at: 2009-06-18

I love auctions, not only is a great way to find amazing deals, they are also a lot of fun when done well. As was a folk art auction I attended at Slotin Auction house. However, if not run well, as I learned last weekend, it can be a long frustrating day and a waste of time and money. I just posted complete details in my blog post, How NOT to Run an Auction! You can also read how an auction is done well here

I will now do a search » READ MORE
