Are Sliding Closet Doors Extinct?

By kiddynomite

The reason I ask is - I can't find them anywhere. When I started looking I figured they would be everywhere from designer stores to Lowe's and Home Depot at very reasonable prices - whomever - I found one place in NYC who would do them custom for $1,000 a door. I was thinking, not so much. Anyone have a clue where they are hiding?

Ohh, while I'm thinking about it, I did find some room dividers and it would be easy to put them on tracks and use t » READ MORE

Inexpensive Low beds

By alttext Why is it that all the beds I see that are low to the ground, modern, and minimalist are $3000? Anyone seen any cheaper ones? How about ideas for crafting a bed like these for a lot less. I really like this bed from Design Within (read Just out of) Reach but would like something a bit lower to the ground. I almost want to just put my mattress on the floor, but think that lacks a certain element of style I am looking for. Any ideas would be apprec » READ MORE

Furniture Placement in Long Living Room

By stayce33

HELP!  We have a long livingroom - it is not narrow, just very long.  The focal point of the space is the fireplace.  It is flanked by 2 windows.  We would love to have our couch face the fireplace, however we love to watch the t.v. and want a comfortable view of it as well.  As you can see there are 2 wall that run the length of the room - one is not as long as the other because of two walk throughs - one goes into the dining room and the other » READ MORE

Diminutive Bath Vanity/Sink...Small Bath

By sparkie

[ Added:  I just got out the tape measure, paper & pencil.  Sure measures small.  Overall, 4'10" X 5'10".  The slope in ceiling starts almost immediately and reaches 6' clearance about 38" into bath, just above the stool. (Not for a tall man, huh!) Even this diminutive vanity at 12" deep may be too much.  At about 8" a vanity would start into the traffic pattern/doorway.  Maybe some creative shallow storage solution is available.  I don't like pe » READ MORE

A room without a wall (or door!)

By zanarose

My dilemma is this:

As of yesterday, I will be living with two of my friends in a lovely apartment in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco (if you've never been I highly advise you to...). Through the luck of drawing straws, I go stuck with the faux bedroom.

My room was actually a living room, which is a large open room between the main hallway and the kitchen. There is no wall dividing it from the hallway, and no door, which is a huge iss » READ MORE

Wall paint for bedroom with gray carpet?

By gloostickdesign

We are finally moving into a lovely apartment with institutional white walls and standard grey (bleh) carpeting in most of the space.  Since I need to buy bedroom furniture quickly, I'm starting with the bedroom.

We've gotten the ok to paint the walls-just nothing terribly dark.  Also the bedroom is not enormous so it would be swallowed by a dark color.

I've been considering a blue/grey that almost matches the carpet so I can be playful » READ MORE
