Decent vanity light fixture?

By ckilgore

Currently I am lucky enough to have a vanity area outside our bathroom, but it has one of those butt -ugly

hollywood lighting strips above it. I like the amount of bright, even light it provides, but  it is totally horrendous. My wish list is that it has to be inexpensive (under $100) clean-lined and still provide good light. I am pretty handy, so DIY solutions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A room without a wall (or door!)

By zanarose

My dilemma is this:

As of yesterday, I will be living with two of my friends in a lovely apartment in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco (if you've never been I highly advise you to...). Through the luck of drawing straws, I go stuck with the faux bedroom.

My room was actually a living room, which is a large open room between the main hallway and the kitchen. There is no wall dividing it from the hallway, and no door, which is a huge iss » READ MORE

What's a good plant for the shower/bathroom?

By artiswork I've got a need for greens, and want to find some plants that won't go south when the hot water is on, or the winter sets in. Anybody have any ideas for a plant that might work?

Fun Fabric

By heylucy

I'm about to paint my guest house all white inside and I have two built-in (poorly made, but very solid) bookcases which I am using to store fabric and other creative supplies. I want to hang curtains in front of them to cover up the clutter, but I'm having a hard time finding just the right fabric. Because they will be a large portion of the room, covering almost an entire wall, I want something really unique and interesting. My fabric choice wi » READ MORE

Inexpensive Low beds

By alttext Why is it that all the beds I see that are low to the ground, modern, and minimalist are $3000? Anyone seen any cheaper ones? How about ideas for crafting a bed like these for a lot less. I really like this bed from Design Within (read Just out of) Reach but would like something a bit lower to the ground. I almost want to just put my mattress on the floor, but think that lacks a certain element of style I am looking for. Any ideas would be apprec » READ MORE

I want (big square wall tiles)on my walls. Where do they come from?

By kiddynomite

I want to use this tiled-wall-effect in my bedroom, but I know nothing about it other than I like it. What is it called? How is it done? What materials are used? Any and all information would be enormously appreciated.

Inexpensive modern tile?

By creede I am looking for some good inexpensive modern tile for my bathroom. I love the ann sacks stuff, but would love it even beter if it was a little bit cheaper. I would love to do something on the walls with a funky proportion like 3"x12" or 3"x9".

Where do I find big, beautiful art that is inexpensive?

By amoore If you look at my profile, you will find 2 pictures of different rooms in our apartment. One room is our livingroom and the other our office. We recently moved in and our walls are BARE! Can anyone suggest where to find art that could help cover our walls while adding to style to our home?
