What's Your Favorite Craft Store?

By createcass

created at: 2009-10-05

I recently found out that Michaels The Arts and Crafts Store is now open in Woodside, Queens.  Martha Stewart is always talking about MICHAELS.  So I went for a visit a few weeks ago.  My review is it is very nice and is full of creative things to do creative things.  With it being just about 30 to 45 minutes (depending on traffic), I am glad I finally got there5106 Northern Blvd

Would you buy a RED DSLR?

By DIY Maven

PENTAX K-x DSLR

Call me an old fart, but I really think all SLRs--D or otherwise--should be black. Pentax, however thinks differently. Their new entry-level DSLR, the K-x comes in red. And white, navy blue and--thank » READ MORE

Would you live in a suburban office park?

By DIY Maven

Bell Labs Full View

So asks Michael Cannel at Fast Company. The question was prompt by the proposed conversion of the Bell Labs campus in Holmdel, New Jersey. Designed by Eero Saarinen, the property was the Fertile Crescent of transistors and cell phones, which, according to New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, makes it a piece of 'science heritage of » READ MORE

What won't you give up in this economy?

By DIY Maven

MWT has drawn a line in the sand. We will continue to shop for groceries at the co-op even though we could save 20% of our grocery expenses by going to our local food super store. I've decided I don't need any new clothes any time soon. Books are a different story. (Gotta have my books.) I'll be passing on any new DVDs, except maybe when the 2nd season of The Big Bang Theory comes out. (I'll play a game of Rock, Paper, Lizard, Scissors, Spock with MWT » READ MORE

Vintage Doors into Tabletops?

By charlo

I have these two beautiful vintage doors. I want to turn them into tabletops.

created at: 2009-06-30

I have most of it figured out. The legs will come from here: http://www.tablelegsonline.com/shop/20-htype-legs-p-361.html?cPath=8_289

What I'm unsure of is how to finish the top. I don't want to use a slab of glass laid over. I'd like to do some version of using lacquer, glaze, finish of some sort to create a thick, clear finish that makes the surface flat » READ MORE

Have you seen this little item yet? I saw the television commercial for it for the first time last night and almost shot milk out of my nose. Apparently, it was available at Walgreens, but after a bunch of complaints, they pulled it from the shelves. You can still buy it, however, at chiaobama.com.

Ideas for redoing an entryway?

By DaiquiriDiva

created at: 2009-05-18

This is a picture of the front entry on the house we just bought. It's about as un-Feng Shui as you can get! Instead of being a functional, inviting feature it looks more like a sad afterthought.  The door itself was painted with a flat band-aid colored paint that shows every scuff and mark, the doorknob is cheap and feels like it could fall off every time you turn it, the porch is small and useless and the stairway is so narrow » READ MORE
