Wanted: Ideas for this Little Guy

By Shari

created at: 2009-05-27

OK, I love this shape, and I've been collecting these little plastic bottles for a while, waiting to get an idea of what I can do with them. But I haven't come up with anything yet. Maybe Somebody out in cyberspace can help?

Ideas for redoing an entryway?

By DaiquiriDiva

created at: 2009-05-18

This is a picture of the front entry on the house we just bought. It's about as un-Feng Shui as you can get! Instead of being a functional, inviting feature it looks more like a sad afterthought.  The door itself was painted with a flat band-aid colored paint that shows every scuff and mark, the doorknob is cheap and feels like it could fall off every time you turn it, the porch is small and useless and the stairway is so narrow we'll barely be » READ MORE

Painted Craftsman Woodwork a Tragedy?

By DIY Maven

The owners of this Craftsman bungalow really, really like white. They've painted over all the dark woodwork and either bleached the original floors or had nearly-white hardwood installed. The interior seems to be a bit of a stew with elements of contemporary and mid-century modern, with a little modern country and traditional thrown in. Overall, however, contemporary leanings win out. So, this is my question ....if you're a fan of such modern e » READ MORE

Color advice

By wordswinker

I just moved into a non-descript little apartment in a jewel of a small town. My new furniture was rescued mainly from Craigslist, but a lot of my stuff has been collected over years and some wise inheriting. I want to paint the backsplash and space above the kitchen cabinets and an accent wall above my couch.

Any advice? The kitchen/dining/living room are in an L, so my immediate thought was to repeat the sofa's color in the kitchen. Then again » READ MORE

Stefan Chair Do-Over

By Shari

Something about spring this year has gotten me itching to do something about my dining room. I decided to start with our bare pine Stefan chairs. I want to paint them, and add a seat cushion. I was thinking of 2" foam covered with oil cloth (staple-gunned to the bottom of the seat).

The only problem is that the seat of the Stefan chair has two cut-out corners to accomodate the back of the chair. So how do I make smooth corners, when trying to st » READ MORE

Painting Vinyl Trailer Walls And Need Advice!

By DestinybyDefinition

If walls could talk, mine would say " I hate you, I hate you so much that I ooze ugliness because I like seeing you cringe..."

Well I'm ready to fight back. But I'm not prepared. I heard a few people say that TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) will give the vinyl a good 'tooth' for the paint to adhere to. So I guess I have to invest a good week and a ton of muscle into just scrubbing the entire house down.

But then I don't know which primer to use and wha » READ MORE

Where to find these lamps?

By erika

I was just thumbing through the new Toast Uk home catalog and thought the lamps in this photo were pretty awesome. Does anyone know where to find such lamps?

Materials

By kaschmitter

Does anyone have any fabric or fabric sample books they are willing to part with? I will pay the shipping.

I am also looking for glass and ceramic tiles even if they have imperfections or are not whole tiles.

      Thank you

Water Bottle Stained Table

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created on: 02/10/09

Hey all you master woodworkers? No, it's not a flower stenciled on my dining table, it's a water mark left by Mr. Mod and his water bottle. (I have yet to convince him of this.) Additionally, the table has taken a moisture beating with other late night glasses being carelessly left un-coastered.  » READ MORE

Could you do your 'business' in a see-through public toilet?

By DIY Maven

Constructed by Monica Bonvicini, this public toilet, called 'Don't Miss a Sec.', is made of 2-way mirrors. In Monica's own words '"Don't Miss a Sec." is about the desire and failure to "see it all" which is a strong trait in modernism. This work absurdly pushes at the limits of what is public and what is private and offers a perfomative element in which inside and outside are blurred together.' But back to my question: Could you do your 'busine » READ MORE
