Pond quandary

By ruajennie Me_medium

My husband and I are looking at buying a cute 1930s era house with an amazingly landscaped yard that is just the right size (not too big, not too small). A main feature of the back yard is a pond, complete with fountain. It's in need of some seasonal cleanup (I think), but I'm wondering how much work a pond is...if it will be something that is more of a hassle than something to be enjoyed? Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks! »MORE

Office/Task chair

By fakerolex 1275126254_l_medium

Hello gang. I am looking for a good/great (inexpensive) office chair to work from under $500. I suppose I should just look for a used aeron, but I wanted to get some recommendations. Has anyone used or sat in this chair from CB2? I am also not a fan of the ikea work chairs. »MORE

Remove paint splatters from newly varnished floorboards?

By 3stripe 104108126_5e231c7e4d_medium

So my decorator didn't cover the floor properly when he painted, and how there are tiny flecks of white paint all over the place. Will he be able to remove it all somehow without damaging the pine floorboards? Or is he going to have to remove the varnish/paint and re-varnish it all? I've had a shot myself out of interest and I did remove a few wee spots with my fingernails, but it would take weeks to do it all like that! PS. Yes I am mad at him and won't be paying up until it's fixed. »MORE

Mid-Century Modern Light Fixture: Needed

By ModHomeEcTeacher Christmas07

Hallelujah!  My husband was changing a bulb that was stuck in the socket of this UGLY fixture and he broke it!!!  Now I can look for a new fixture.  I'm looking for a new fixture or, better yet, a mid-century fixture that gives off enough light.  I'm looking for interesting ideas.  The table is staying but the chairs will be replaced.  I'm still working on what to do with the greenhouse view. »MORE

Kitchens with Green Clean

By jasimar Avi_medium

So my germ obsession conflicts entirely with my family's design to clean more greenly.  I'd really like some input on how you sanitize your kitchen without harsh chemicals.  I've read lots of conflicting information about vinegar and baking soda and how much they really get rid of spilt chicken/ meat bacteria.  Also, I'm open to new products and methods.  Tell me how you do it, means and method. »MORE
