How to Flip a House in 90 Days: Construction Continues

By DIY Maven

As we covered approximately 2000 feet of molding and 20 six-panel composite doors, it was was necessary to employ several tricks to keep our sanity.

Painting Tips That May Prevent Insanity

Since we had removed the baseboard moldings where we were going to install the hardwood floor, we were able to paint the walls with little taping. Before re-installing the unpainted moldings, we cut 6 inch strips of poly sheeting and tucked that behind th » READ MORE

Our happy art gallery hallway

By kickpleat

My husband and I live in a 450 sq. ft. 100 year old apartment. It's full of character and I love our kitchen, but it's our hallway that makes our apartment so liveable and so full of charm. We have high ceilings and we've installed bookshelves to go around the top perimter of the entire space. My husband who is a part-time library assistant has made sure everything is easy to find...plus, he's tall so his height is an advantage when grasping for » READ MORE

How to Flip a House in 90 Days: Let the Construction Begin

By DIY Maven

With the cabinetry ordered and the house gutted, we started construction. Well, one of us did, as walls needed to be framed in the unfinished basement. While that was attended to, three of us started the never ending painting process.

Prep-Work

But before brush touched pigment, we removed all light switches, registers, doors (except the one remaining for the functioning bathroom, for obvious reasons) and baseboard moldings, where we intended to ins » READ MORE

Moss Graffiti

By ecogal

What more beautiful combination of color and texture exists in nature than the bright chlorophyll-green of soft, spongy moss?  What an striking contrast as it creeps between slabs of pavement and rocks, over bricks and tree bark of an urban environment.  If you're looking to make a statement with public art (sans the vandalism of graffiti) or add a soft green mat to your backyard garden path, mix up this moss cocktail, and simply paint it on with » READ MORE

Picture Wall (IKEA frames)

By leecorrina

picture wall complete (no photos yet)

This was this past weekend's project... though obviously it's not quite finished yet (no photos in the frames).  But it's been on the to-do list for a while, so it's nice to finally see it up.

We've always liked the Picture Wall system, but at $350 for a 3' x 5' section (when we knew we could do it for less), it's no wonder we stalled on the project for a while.

So after two visits to IKEA (two different IKEAs, actually... ALWAYS CALL FIRST FOR AV » READ MORE

How to Flip a House in 90 Days: Getting Started to Demolition

By DIY Maven

The short version:

Find the money to buy a depressed property in a great location, and then work your behind off.

The long version:

In our case, we exercised a line a credit against the equity in our home to come up with the funds. That only provide for half of what we needed, so we found a guy with cash who was as crazy as we were with whom to partner. We hired a lawyer to draw up an LLC to protect us, financially.

Don’t let the picture of this cu » READ MORE

My retro happy place...

By veeeee

This is my happy place.

With two children, it's not always this tidy so I really enjoy these moments when it is. I love stoking up the fire, making a big bowl of popcorn and snuggling on the couch watching movies with my hubby and children. I equally love it when I have moments to myself when I can make a cup of tea and catch up on my favorite mags.

Surrounded by my thriftstore treasures, happy pops of color, cozy pillows and best of all my family » READ MORE
