isn't it kind of defeating the purpose to buy an eco-grocery bag? oh, sorry- Anyway, here's a cool tutorial for making a sturdy, waterproof bag out of the plastic grocery sacks. http://modcottage.com/?p=109   I saw a better-looking tutorial somewhere, but can't seem to find it. That gives the concept though. It looks like fun, I'm going to try it. As for canvas bags, I'd sew my own, for sure. Don't need a pattern. But I love L. L. Bean bags, that's where I'd go to buy one, if I was going to buy one, which I never would.

I have a few, and have just sewn my own.  I use a pattern for a simple tote from Lotta Jansdotter, and they literally take fifteen minutes to make.

I found a really cute woven one at Target on the clearance rack for $3.00! Its actually a good sized one too. I also have seen some cute mesh ones and canvas bags there as well!

you might want to look at reusablebags.com  They have some really cute ones. Not sure if that's what you're looking for but check it out. Not high design but really cute. I gave some to my sisters and they get comments on them all the time. personally - i like the ones i bought myself because they're the exact size of a brown bag and have handles and a little more structure to them so the weight in the bag is well distributed, which makes it easier to carry heavy bags. they're called Acme i think. that site also has some nylon bags that stuff into themselves so that they're about the size of your fist. I keep one of those in my purse so I always have one with me. (sorry for the plug but...i also have some shopping trolleys on wheels in my shop that are cute and very convenient if you have to walk to carry your groceries far).
