Poll: How Often Do You Clean

By bruno

Sore subject? Maybe. I know some people who sweep and dust their home every single weekend. Other (who shal remain unnamed) are lucky if they pick up their dirty laundry off the floor once a month.

Me? I'm somewhere in between. A clean house makes me feel calm and unburdened, but I don't let keeping it clean become an all-consuming obsession.

How about you?

Our house is generally clean all of the time.  I have to have an empty kitchen sink to sleep well at night, but I dust and vacuum maybe every 2 or 3 weeks or until I start noticing that it needs to be done.  We don't wear our shoes in the house, in case that fact freaked out anyone, so the carpet doesn't "appear" to be that dirty.  I have a friend that vacuums every day.  Granted, she has 2 small kids, but still, that amazes me.

I clean something and organize something every day.  That way I don't have to spend my entire weekend cleaning up nastiness.  The fastest (and probably only) way to make me wig out is for there to be enough clutter around that I can't quickly see what I'm looking for.  Is there a kewl Latin term for a clutter-phobe? ;o)

My husband's shop, however, is a bloody pigsty.  About once a month, when the floor is 100% covered in scraps and broken parts, and his machinery is coated in 1/2 inch of dust and shavings, I run him out and sweep.  I don't have to work in it, so I kinda don't care, except that it starts tracking in on his shoes and clothes, and I really hate walking on a floor that crunches beneath my feet.  [shudder]  I don't know how he can work in there, but it doesn't seem to bother him...

I make it a point to do a bit of cleaning everyday, whether it's dusting an area, tidying up some cables or throwing something out... I don't mind an *organized mess* that comprises of my art materials or designs books and the like ('cause that makes me feel and look like I'm doing some work) but otherwise, I like my space to be clean. Then I'm able to concentrate better.

Are we posting how much we would LIKE to clean or how much we actually DO.   I don't think I have any solid average to even claim.   Am I the only one that gets manic and cleans like a mad-woman then lets it go because you get too busy.....  I THINK NOT!

I chose that I clean every day, because I do *some* cleaning every day, but I do save the major deep-cleaning for once a week. And my house is still often a disaster. (I blame that on the kids, heh)

Walk around tidy bit goes daily as well as dishes and a bit of laundry.  But the good scrub for bath, kitchen, vac and change linens happens once a week if I'm lucky.  And we have terrible allergies.  I should really do it all more often.
