Addicted to Ornaments

By bruno Picture_009_medium

Cindy Johnson never decorates her Lyndon Township home for Halloween or Valentine's Day or Easter. How could she? During that time span, she's busy putting up or taking down Christmas decorations. She decks the halls with 42 trees, as well as a large collection of other decorations, in what amounts to a six-month challenge."It just got out of control," admits Johnson, who works as an IT operations supervisor at the Borders Group corporate office in Ann Arbor. "I'm an ornament addict, a Christmas junkie."  Via YouTube & Ann Arbor News »MORE

A New Look for Curbly!

By bruno Mock1_nogrid_medium

It's been over a year since we first launched the site, and it felt like time for a re-design, so after many long hours of coding, I'm pleased to announce the re-launch of Curbly.com!The new design features more readable typography and more whitespace around key elements like blog posts and profile info. It's based on a 14-column grid layout, which should give us lots of flexibility in how we arrange content:  No grid  With the 14-column grid. Of course, we're never done designing, and this layout will continue to get tweaked in the next few weeks. If you see anything you think needs... »MORE

Curbly downtime; apologies.

By bruno Exclamation_large

Hey all, I'm sure you noticed the site was down for much of the day yesterday. We had a problem with our hosting provider losing power, and then there were some issues getting our server back up. Unfortunately we couldn't even access the server to put up a placeholder or status message.I'd like to apologize for this failure on our part, and assure you we're working on a better plan to keep this from happening in the future. Thanks for your patience, and please report any strange site behavior or bugs to support@curbly.com. »MORE

Finished with finishing!

By bruno Img_1498_large

Ever wonder what happened to those Fix-It videos? I do. It has been ages since we got up the energy to put one together! But that doesn't mean we haven't been fixing things. For the last two weeks we've been refinishing our woodwork, and let me tell you, it would've made a great Fix-Its video. Alas, the work was gruelling and left little energy for videography. I'll try to post some before/after and process pics laster on. But for now, here's the finished bannister: As you can see, it's still drying (might have to do a second coat in some spots). The... »MORE

If they can do it ... can I?

By bruno 434675675_0adb4d4225_m

My front retaining wall's a mess, and the few estimates I've gotten so far have been pretty discouraging (too expensive, too cheap, too shady). So when I came across this post showing a retaining wall re-stucco done right, I got a little burst of inspiration. Hey, maybe I can do this too! Anybody want to chip in with some advice? I've got a fairly long (30-40 feet) and high (4 ft) wall that either needs repairing or replacing. I'm thinking of power-washing it, putting up some wire lathe, and then re-stuccoing the whole thing. Is this something I can do myself,... »MORE
