Unusual ceiling fixture troubles

Last month, I moved into an apartment in a house that was first remolded in the '40s, according to the landlady. Accordingly, there are many unique features. Which can be wonderful and, well, this on the ceiling of my bedroom:
The direct light is awful when laying in bed, but I don't know how to handle it. Would any sort of shade or fixture work with this? I'm pretty sure the standard ones I am aware of can't, but I could be wrong. I » READ MORE
Utah Ikea in two weeks
By bohringAs I type, I am watching an Ikea commercial. "Come to the Ikea opening in Draper May 23," it says. And each time I travel to Salt Lake, I see the glorious blue building to the West of I-15.
Oh, how I have longed to hear those words. I was told for years that it would never be possible. There was no nearby seaport. It would come to Denver long before here. Zoning issues. Fear of crickets.
