name that deck chair

By binary_pattern

i have a deck chair that i bought at a garage sale.  when i bought it, i was certain that i had seen chairs of this design before -- i thought it was a classic style.  now that i'm trying to find more of them, though, i don't know what they're called in order to search for them.

do any of *you* know what this style of chair is called?

the features that endear it to me are that it can recline quite far ... or sit straight up ... with several locking positions in between. and when it's not in use, it folds practically flat so that i can hang it from a hook
on the exterior wall where a) my dogs can't chew it, and b) any precipitation drips quickly off of it.

Nice find.  I was going to say it looks like an adirondack.

On a side note, I saw where a person purchased a similar looking chair at a yard sale for a few dollars.  It turned out ot be a deck chair from the Titanic that washed up on the beach after it sank.  I think it sold for $100K.

The folding aspect with leg/foot extension makes it a steamer chair, but I agree the back certainly leaves the sensation of an adirondack chair.  Given the prevalence of adirondack chairs in rural and southern areas these days, I think we should coin a new term for this chair: riverboater.

hmm, i guess i didn't look very hard earlier.  it only took a few minutes of googling to learn that these are called steamer chairs.  if you like them as much as i do, take a look at this page (the result of my window-shopping):

i was pretty floored by the cost of these suckers -- $130 was the cheapest i found!

looks like it is a classic after all.  thanks to e-bay, i can have this one, direct from the deck of the HMS queen mary, for a measly $2500.

It reminds me of Adirondack chairs, except not. I know, I'm no help! :)
