(In Billy Joel Voice....)
By beccajoIiiiii'm movin' OUT!
32 days from now I'll be makin' the move from the top floor of a lovely old house, to a brand-newly converted studio in an Artist's community. They took three old warehouses and made them into new, funky spaces for artists to live and work.
(imagine a corolla instead of a model t)
I'm so excited, there's so much to do, and to keep myself from being overwhelmed I'm making many, many lists. DURING my move, I have a show opening with my theater company, AND the college where I'm on staff as a costume designer. Fortunately, my landlord is letting me overlap two weeks to make it a gradual move.
A very wise woman once said, to help you reach your goal, work backwards in time from that goal. So thanks Oprah, here's my list. See anything I've missed? Lemme know!
March 14th
Deep clean house, buy a plant to say thank you for 18 great months of living in someone else's home! Throw an open house at my new place for landlord and her family, and all my other friends and family too. How many people can you fit into a 540 sq. foot studio?
March 12th
Complete move of all art materials. Nothing should be left at this time in the old house.
March 10th
Complete move of all off-season clothing and shoes
March 8th
Complete move of all books and other personal items. Begin move of all off-season clothing, shoes, and art materials.
March 6th
Complete move of all clothing and toiletries, begin living at apartment full time. Begin move of books and other personal items.
March 4th
Don't worry about moving!
March 3rd
Show closes, strike all night.
March 2nd
Get treats for moving.....and then with friends, sister (and our parent's truck) get bed and mattress, and shelving units moved from old place. Move kitchen stuff in. (I've had access to my landlord's kitchen items so mine are still packed up from the last move). Set up bed and mattress, move other large furniture items like dresser and chairs, and shelving units. Move bedding, towels, and other bathroom effects to new place.
March 1st
Show opens. Begin move of clothes....sister arrives with cat. Meet them at the airport, bandage sister's claw wounds, and take them to new apartment. We'll stay at the house over the weekend while the cat can explore the mostly empty apartment.
Feb 28th
Trip to pet store to get ready for the cat. Trip to dollar store to get cleaning supplies for both houses. Set aside all clothes and toiletries that I'll need for the next few days, pack all else into my car. Confirm bed and mattress and shelving units.
Feb 26th
Box up all books and personal effects that I won't need over the next 2 weeks. Fill out form to change address to new place.
Feb 24th
Trip to parent's storage area to go through my old kitchen stuff, donate what I'm not going to need to Goodwill.
Feb 22nd
Get boxes from work, buy tape, and sharpies.
Feb 20th
Call utilities to get set up in my name in new apartment, sign lease, get keys etc.
Feb 15th
Finish going through all clothing to sort for keep, donate, or giveaway to friends. I hope to reduce my wardrobe by about 20%, and get rid of all costumes and props that I have layin' around from various theater productions. They'll be donated to the college so I'll still have access to them if I need them.
Feb 8th
Line up friends/family to help with move, find out their favorite cookies and donuts. Launder everything I own that can be put into a washing machine.
Feb 6th
Finish sorting boxes of 'to sort later' papers, art materials, and magazines.
Feb 4th
Show closes, load out and return furniture to where it's been borrowed from or donate to Goodwill
Feb 1st
Show opens, bask in reflected glory of my fantastic cast.
THIS WEEK
Begin sorting of 'to sort later' papers, art materials, and magazines. It's good mindless fun!

Sounds like you have your move well planned; I'm impressed. Good luck in your new place, it certainly looks like it has the potential to be a really cool little micro-community. Please do post pix after you get settled in!
If you get bored after your move, since you find sorting papers to be good mindless fun, I can ship you a few boxes of mine to go through! ;o) (I'm up to my eyeballs in organizing stuff that accumulated last year during a project from hell, and I *hate* it!)
