Coral: Cool or Drool?
By beccajoIt's deep red, organic, textural like nuthin' else, and unusual. For the past three years or so, coral has been in every home magazine and store from here to Bora-bora. You've seen the pillows, you know what I mean....but the popularity of coral seems to be waning.
Has the time passed for people to use coral as a home design motif?

(I won't even get into the resin vs. real debate, it makes my head hurt to think about it)
Anthro used to carry about 50 items sporting the bright red/orange branchy type coral, including a crazy beautiful chandelier, now they're just down to this.
Z Gallerie has more than a few coral-y items, not only in red but blue, black, and metallics. They were having big sales on their molded resin coral frames and objects-d-art just before the holidays, they must have been close outs because they're not on their site at all.
next big thing?
I've started to see a lot of Koi and Goldfish out there, which have been my personal obsession for quite a while now. I kind of hope they don't get popular, because a. I'll end up buying too many goldfish tchotkes and b. it means it will someday be NOT popular, and that means that all the stuff I already have will look SO 2007.
What do you think? Do you have use coral, either the real stuff or just the image of it, in your decorating?
Is it a permanent fixture for you or is it just a way to add and interest to your decor?
Do you plan on replacing it or are you keepin' the coral?
What's gonna be the next big thing? (please don't say antlers!!!!)

The only coral thing I have is a couple of postcards in a set of vintage repros (from Anthropologie). They're meant to go on the bedroom walls, but I haven't hung them yet. I get sick of wall art fast anyway, so I'm sure they won't last long.
I really like damask patterns, but I've been seeing them a lot lately and I hope they don't become incredibly popular as a decorating theme.
