Shreddin' (no snowboards involved)

By beccajo

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions for keeping on top of the mounds of mail I get each week?

I have 90% of my mail sent to my folk's house, as I move so frequently that changing all those addresses is such a huge hassle. So once a week I meet up with them, they deliver the goods, and I usually just take out the good stuff and let the other stuff sit around until once a month or so I do a huge purge. Back when I had more money, I used to make some fairly regular donations (guilt based, mostly) and now I am on about a million and one mailing lists for various charities/organizations.

Also, most of my bills are on automatic pay because otherwise I'd forget to pay them. They just come out of my accounts, and I verify them online, so the paper copies are mostly superfluous. I keep them, but just because I think it's probably a good idea in case Y2007K causes issues. HA.

I know I probably SHOULD get a shredder, any suggestions?  Do they make them in hot pink or turquoise blue?

On the Office a few weeks back, one of the characters made a salad with his shredder. I prolly won't do that...

Also, any ideas on (fashionable and easy-to-use) filing systems? I'm pretty much clueless about this kind of stuff, being a 'Scattered Artist' and all. HA!

Gotta love The Office!

I keep a shredder in my hall closet and stick junk in there until it's full. Then I sit down and have a shred fest. I'd check Target for good-looking shredders. I think they have at least one made by Phillip Stark.

For files, I'd recommend an accordion file with 12 slots. Label one for each month. Stick your bills and receipts into the month you got them. In a year when you get back to December or January or whatever, take all the old ones out, shred them, and file the new stuff.
