Legos!
By beccajoAwesome article about Legos here! And want to see their manufacturing process?
Sure, they're not as elegant as FLW's blocks, as rustic as Lincoln Logs, or as industrial as the unfortunately named Erector Set, but I'm sure that playing with Legos as a kid is what gave me my 'three dimensional brain'.
turkeys? bunnies? where are the lego squirrels?
Back in my day, we had a lot fewer options as far as color and 'Characters' go. That didn't stop my brother and I from spending HOURS with those red, yellow, black, white, and green bricks! We had to be very creative, or build them around the other small toys and dolls we had. We unsuccesfully to build boats to float in our tub or lake, but then they came out with the 'Pirate' set and we were golden. The 'Castle', and 'Space' sets came out just as I was getting a bit too old to play with them.....but now my cousin's kids have a computer game combining two of my great childhood loves! I've played it a few times, but it seems almost sacreligious to take such a physical, real world toy, and turn it into an animation style that keeps kids from developing that 3-d portion of their brain! It is a really fun game though........
I also enjoy this page immensely. And, the Art History major in me thinks this is also fantastic.
