Fake a green lawn

By beccajo

Artificial grass has come a long way. Behold, the Heavenly Greens company of northern Cali.

When you factor in  your own environmental costs, time, and labor, (using their handy calculator), you may find this is the right solution for you. You can even install your very own maintenance-free putting green.

Hey-if it's good enough for the Minnesota Twins, it's good enough for me.

Oh wait, I don't have a lawn. Yet.........

I saw on the site that they mentioned raking it sometimes, and hosing it down.  Where it was installed at dog kennels, sometimes they used an enzyme cleaner to get it cleaner.

I think this is great stuff! What a blast! If I had a little postage-stamp yard, and I was a little old lady & didn't want to deal with it & had the money for this, I'd consider it, I think. My other option would be to sow the whole thing in wildflowers or some short-type groundcover. We have the next best thing (in my view) though- our grass is all crabgrass & moss. The topsoil is mostly all gone, it's only sandy junk left, so there's no hope of getting a lush green lawn, and there's no point in bothering! The moss helps keep the "grass" short, so all we do is mow once every few weeks or so! Personally I love a moss-filled lawn. It looks green, it doesn't need mowing, it is hardy & indestructible, it grows under shady condiitions- I love it!

If I lived in one of those sand-for-yard places, I'd consider this stuff. No watering, no mowing, no weeding. Although, I wonder if you have to vacuum/clean it now and then? Like when one of the ballplayers hocks a loogie in the outfield, do they just ignore it?
