What's on your table?

By beccajo

What does one family typically eat in a week? This slideshow comes from this amazing book. It's also interesting to see what constitutes a 'dining room' for these families.

Italianfamily

Here we see an Italian family-and lots of carbs...and by way of comparison look at how much packaged food the Americans eat!

I'm inspired to do this once I've gone grocery shopping this weekend! My table as a single person will of course look very different....Anyone else want to post their weekly menu with me?

I've been trying to eat locally-getting things from the farmer's markets or the co-op up the street that haven't traveled across the world to get to my door.  These folks are quite inspiring, and I'm doing my best to live up to their 100 mile challenge, but I'm not doing it 'cold turkey' as it were.  In the summer and fall this will be easy, and hopefully by the winter I've gotten to learn some tricks. But I don't think ALL my food will be from under 100 miles away. No way I could give up coffee.

Thank you for posting this! The slideshow was fascinating! It's amazing how much money seems to be wasted on pre-packaged foods. And that some familys eat for the week on $2. That's amazing. I'll have to check this book out from my library!
