That Toddlin' Town!

By beccajo

Goin' to Chicago for the weekend, it's my older sis's birthday and I'm re-adopting her cat. Good times! I'm driving there and back, which means lots of room for excting items to further feather the nest.

I used to live in the windy city-for the year after college when I had 15 jobs in one year-and I lurve it. Where will I be going on this visit?

Jayson Home and Garden. This store is absolutely amazing. It has gorgeous flowers, unique accessories, a full service frame shop, yummy candles....everything but kitchen sinks.  These closionne pieces have been popping up in every other home magazine....I love their graphic quality!

A New Leaf Another flower shop, which is not just another flower shop...plus....ribbons, candles, tiles, river rock, Mexican tin can art, saris, fabric trim....three stores piled literally to the ceilings with amazing bits and bobs for your garden and houseplants. I just re-potted some of my grandma's orchids, I will be looking for new ceramic and glass outer pots to jazz them up when they're not blooming. My apartment was just around the corner from two of their locations, and it never failed to make me smile.

Sprout Home and Garden More garden and houseplant schtuff...plus fun and funky home accessories. If you've read about it in Domino or ReadyMade, chances are Sprout will have it. This place rules. Plus, they are offering shares in an organic vegetable co-op. How cool is that?

Up the road from Sprout is Rotofugi, a toy store for grown-ups.

Do I need these? No. Do I want them? YES.

Lastly, I will be checking out the many Anthropologies (which are like 10 times bigger than the MN ones), thrift stores like the Brown Elephant and the Children's Hospital Thrifts, and all the stores along Armitage Ave, again, my old stomping grounds.

Chicagoans-what are your favorite places in town?

There is a used furniture/antique store in Andersonville across from a bookstore and diagonally across from Scout.  I was able to pick up about five chairs in there at the end of the summer and was even able to climb through a truck out back to find the mate to one of the chairs. Prices were cheap and the variety was great.  Most of the chairs are in my garage waiting for a makeover.  Time to go to Chicago again.
