Bird is the Word

By beccajo

Birds have been a popular motif in home decorating for quite some time, raise your had if your parents had a macrame owl on the wall back in the day. Birds tend to lend themselves very well to winter decor, something about the weather turning colder and wanting to hunker in your nest, perhaps?  I'm going to hit the after-sales this year and stock up on birdy ornaments and accessories.

Here are some easy and elegant ways to introduce the avian into your gilded cage!

Bird1 bird ornament from pier one. I especially like the smooth surface of the glass and the crazy chaos of the feathers.

Owls1 owl ornaments from west elm

Bird2 also at west elm. lovely prints with a birdy theme

Ok this one's a little over the top...but fun anyhow! It's from the book PAD

And lastly, from a company that has devoted itself to making our feathered friends as welcome as possible by selling outrageously expensive and insanely beautiful copper feeders, a whole flock of tweeters from Smith & Hawken.

These are really nice, so NOT the folksy birdhouse trend that won't go away.

Incidentally, there was a cold remedy commercial on the TV last year that was set in a pretty green bedroom with a huge print of a nest with robin's eggs. I searched high and low for it under as many different search terms I could think of... I've been meaning to paint one myself, it was an image of textures and calm.
