Managing curbly

By balubalu

Hi everyone,

I'm somehow having problems keeping up to date with the curbly posts, comments and other stuff. How do you manage that you don't miss a thing in this community?

I'd like to have some sort of subscription method (perhaps not by mail, but being able to see in my profile pages somewhere) to be informed of new comments on tasks that I've commented on. Or being able to subscribe to a post I'm interested in to see if someone has to say something interesting even if I did not comment it yet.

What ideas do you have for curbly?

PS: Who is coding the backend anyway?

balu, this rss feed -- http://www.curbly.com/rss -- shows the most recent posts, which works fairly well for me, as long as i'm looking at it pretty regularly.  when that's not the case, i browse the "recent posts" page, but that is not as efficient as i would like.  BRUNO, perhaps you will consider this for future improvements: currently, to browse the recent posts, one has to click each post, go back, and then click another one.  i'd like to be able to go to one post and then click "previous" or "next" to see one by one the posts that came before or after it. at the moment, the "previous" and "next" links available only move to other posts made by the same author you're currently reading.

Aloha Bruno,

first of all - you are doing a great job here. I really like the look and feel of curbly in total.

I've noticed the RSS feeds of course, but I'd have to subscribe to each users clippings e.g. to get notified about updates - or is there some kind of "global clippings RSS"? (I'm not sure if I'd want that, because those might get a little too much news :o) - just being curious)

Anyway having a way to see responses to posts I've commented on or perhaps even being able to "subscribe" to a post (without having to post a comment because the topic is interesting or similar) would be a nice feature IMHO.

I'd prefer some kind of list in my profile area instead of mails, because I get too much mail already ;).

The "my last comments" list is a step in the right direction, but that adds a step: visit the post and check the comments just to see there is nothing new.

I guess it wouldn't be too hard to create a list with comments that were done after mine?

Hey babalu,

Great questions, and to be honest, there's still no perfect answer. But with feedback from users like you, we'll be able to improve the system to make sure you never miss a thing.

Some tips:
1. Practically everything on Curbly has an RSS feed (for example, your blog has a feed here). You can subscribe to RSS feeds from Curbly using a Web based RSS reader like Google Reader.

2. There's a section on your profile page where you can see the latest comments you've left on other people's stuff (that way you can go back and check to see if anyone else has commented). We're looking into having a way for you to get notified by email if there's any activity on any item you've subscribed to (please weigh in on this and let me know if you want that!).

3. I'm coding the backend. Feature requests, bugs reports and general feedback are ALWAYS appreciated.
