Real flying bed

By balubalu

Badbadivy's post about a floating bed reminded me of something that I've seen "pre-curbly" and which might will be some inspiration for all us really modern style people.

A real floating bed :-).

Real floating bed

You'll need to win some kind of lottery though before you can buy one of those.

You could do this with electromagnets.  There would be a single wire to the platform.  The reason this one is so expensive is it is using huge permanent magnets in the top piece.  Those cost a fortune.  The engineering should not be too difficult.  The hardest part would be to balance the platform so it will be very difficult to push of the sweet spot (do that and it will fall).  You can even build your own electromagnets from instructions on the Internet.   I build a happy fun magnetic suspension crate once (don't ask for what) using this technology.

The caveat I would have for you is this: living bodies do not do well in strong electromagnetic fields.  Side effects can be disruption of endocrine and  immune systems and an increased risk of cancer.

I like legs.  ;o)
