Confession time!

By badbadivy

IkeaAlright, I have a confession to make. I've never been to an Ikea. I know, I know. Please try to confine your heart attacks for a moment while I explain. I live in Nashville, which is super far away from any Ikea. There's always the one in Atlanta, but I have been unable to persuade my husband to be cool with driving to Atlanta *just* to go to Ikea.

I had the chance when I was in Minneapolis a couple of years ago. I was visiting my over-50 bachelor uncle. He told me he only had it in him to *either* go to the Mall of America *or* Ikea. Not both. I spent about a half hour trying to decide. I finally decided nobody would understand why I chose to go to Ikea and not the Shrine of American Consumerism, so I chose MoA.

A few months later, my uncle went to Ikea and told me it was everything I thought it would be and he had dropped a few bucks on some furniture. For himself. I still curse him to this day for that, but what can you do?

Well, the time has come that I *must* convince my husband of our  need to drive to Atlanta to go to Ikea. Check this out:

 The coolest kid's chair EVER.

Is that not the most awesome children's chair you have ever seen? My kids cannot go on until they have this in their rooms!!  And it's not available online, either, so it looks like I'm going to Atlanta!

Now, come on, is there anyone else reading that's not been to Ikea? Can you feel my pain?  I want to hear from you!

I confess - I too have not been to Ikea.  So sad:( I did manage to convince my husband to go a while back and buy me some of these:

After reading Chrisjob's post, I believe I'll wait til mid-week to go.  I can hardly wait now!

How much is that chair? I may have to take a trip to Atlanta as well. My Finnish friend was in Atlanta's Ikea recently and was in heaven, as much of the furniture had Finnish names.

I saw that chair in the current catalog and I loved it too!  And we don't even have kids!

I've only been once, because the one nearest us is surrounded by construction and traffic.  I'd like to go again, but it isn't a quick trip type of thing - it's like you have to reserve half a day just to make it there, lug around what you buy, and get home.

Borrow your dad's truck or rent a van/truck; trust me, you won't be sorry! If you are going to drive that far you aren't going to want to leave behind something you've fallen for. Just make sure you get everything you need for anything big you get; IKEA's shipping charges are ridiculous. Twenty minutes from TWO IKEA locations? You have no idea how jealous I am Jasimar! I have to drive 80 miles to IKEA and consider myself lucky to have one that close.

I live 20 min from 2 Ikea locations.  I consider myself blessed.  heh  I'm such an Ikea junkie.

Sydney, that's part of the problem, really, I drive the tiniest little Honda. I just know I'll buy some big stuff and then have to wonder how to get it home, haha. I wonder if my dad will let me borrow his truck. Hmmmm. ;)

Totally worth the schlep! Make sure you go in a vehicle large enough to cart home everything you can't live without, which will be a lot more than you are expecting. I hope you have a catalog to draw some inspiration from pre-trip. I've been to the Atlanta IKEA; seemed a bit smaller than some of the other IKEAs I've been to, but you will love it. Happy shopping!

I know! But going 250 miles with 3 children is like going 2,000 miles all by yourself! ;)

Wow. Let's all try to be supportive and willhold judgement ... but, COME ON WOMAN! Nashville to Atlanta?! That's only 250 miles!

You are forgiven! I also empathize completely with your uncle about going to one or the other. As a Twin Citian, I avoid the MoA if at all possible! It's disgusting on so many levels!

Tadiera: If I make it to Ikea and remember, I'll pick you up one! :D

DIY Maven: I know, lol. It's a sad, sad thing that I've never been to Ikea! I *do* haunt their website, though, so can I get a pass? :)

I used to be able to go to Ikea, back when I lived in MD. Now, in Ohio, there isn't one anywhere near enough. *sigh*

I keep begging people to send me those huge blue Ikea bags, too. I love them for laundry, but mine has torn.
